What causes second marriages to end in divorce?

| Nov 18, 2020 | Divorce |

Getting married for the second time in Arizona can be a blissful time, but it can also bring a lot of stress and headaches. While most people don’t like to think about it, second and third marriages don’t often survive. Here are some of the most common issues that arise during second marriages.

Why are second marriages likely to end in divorce?

When you get married for the second time, it’s usually later in life. By this point, you and your new spouse might have kids from a previous marriage. Ideally, both families would be able to live together in harmony. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always end up that way.

Instead of accepting their new step-parent, many children see a person preventing their parents from getting back together. A child might try to drive their step-parent out of the house and encourage them to divorce. There’s no guarantee that your kids are going to like your new spouse, so you might be dealing with two sets of angry children who would love to see your marriage end in divorce.

Additionally, step-parents usually find it difficult to discipline their step-children. Sometimes it’s because they don’t want to overstep their boundaries; other times, it’s because they want to make friends with their new step-children. Whatever the case, they can have trouble setting boundaries and getting their step-children to respect them. This can cause further conflict in their marriage if their new spouse won’t stick up for them.

What should you do when you’re ready for divorce?

It’s not an easy decision to end a marriage, but an attorney may be able to make the divorce process easier. Your attorney may help you split up your assets while protecting your children’s inheritance. Additionally, an attorney might help you make plan modifications after the divorce is finalized.
